Event Coordination and Project Management

Occupational Health and Safety Project-Fall 2025 OHS 2897
Partner with students in the Occupational Health and Safety Management program as they explore ways to identify hazards, assess their severity by applying various assessment techniques and determine the likelihood they will cause harm. They will also review any available relevant documentation. Through a comprehensive risk assessment, students will evaluate the existing controls for effectiveness and make recommendations for appropriate corrective measures in the form of a detailed plan. The capstone project draws upon all other courses in the program to enable students to gain an experiential understanding of the real-life applications of occupational health and safety management in the workplace. Integrating the knowledge and skills gained in the program, students will assume the role of health and safety practitioners and inspect a workplace to assess and prioritize risks. List of requirements from the company: Pre-inspection contact interview (30 minutes) with the designated H&S prime (at your convenience) Access to the site for inspection Access to any previous H&S information records (past H&S inspection reports/recommendations, accident/injury reports, hazardous materials information (as appropriate) maintenance reports, safety training records, a copy of an existing floor plan of the facility and/or any other reports that would assist in better understanding the organizations current H&S practices, trends and issues Students would also require permission from their employer to identify, record, and take photographs of potential and actual hazards uncovered during the inspection. All students participating in the safety inspection will adhere strictly to all safety procedures and company policies. This includes the mandatory use of personal protective equipment within the facility.

Business Administration Experience
This experience offers learners the opportunity to engage with the dynamic environment of small business management, focusing on operational and business development activities. Learners will apply their knowledge of business administration to real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience in managing customer inquiries, vendor relations, and internal communications. By working directly with leadership teams, learners will develop skills in streamlining operations and supporting business growth, providing tangible benefits to participating companies.

Strategic Marketing Engagement
This experience offers industry professionals the opportunity to collaborate with marketing students who are eager to apply their strategic thinking and creativity to real-world challenges. Learners will engage in drafting marketing materials and participating in promotional activities, such as attending the Canada Outdoor Farm Show.
