Details

Dawson Co-operative Union seeks to map out key sustainability standards across various frameworks and standards. This project is ideal for a cohort with an interest in sustainability, governance, and financial reporting, particularly those studying accounting, business, or environmental sciences.

Background:

Dawson Co-operative Union: Sustainability in Action

As a leading co-operative in the Peace Region, Dawson Co-op serves its members through key commodities, including petroleum, agriculture, grocery, and home & building solutions. Our operations are rooted in the principles of environmental stewardship, community engagement, and sustainable development.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Dawson Co-op is dedicated to reducing its environmental footprint and strengthening community well-being. From supporting local food security initiatives to advocating for sustainable farming and energy practices, we prioritize long-term, impactful solutions that align with global sustainability standards.

Exploring New Frameworks and Practices

By mapping out established sustainability, Dawson Co-op seeks to deepen its commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation in its core commodities. This project will help us identify opportunities to enhance our practices in areas such as:

  • Energy-efficient operations in petroleum services.
  • Sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Waste reduction and ethical sourcing in grocery and retail.
  • Community-focused development in home and building solutions.

  • Research and analyze key sustainability frameworks applicable to Dawson Co-op’s operations.
  • Develop a comparison matrix of these standards, outlining their relevance and application to specific commodities.

Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Identify specific ESG-related KPIs aligned with Dawson Co-op's strategic goals, such as carbon footprint reduction, community investment, employee engagement, and sustainable sourcing, to standardize data tracking and measure progress effectively.

Representation
Community-Focused Cooperatively-Owned Rural-Based

Proudly serving Dawson Creek and surrounding areas for over 100 years. Dawson Co-op is not a store, an office, or a town. Dawson Co-op is its members, it is the team that works at our locations and the guests who shop there, all those who own an equal stake in the business and share the rewards. Dawson Co-op would not be here today if it were not for a small group of farmers over 100 years ago who came together to provide better buying options for their families, friends, and neighbours.

Today, we continue that commitment to our community by providing a great selection of local products, giving back to our member-owners, and investing locally through partnerships, sponsorships, and donations.
